Get’er Done Challenge update
With just over 10 days to go, are you getting‘er done?
I checked off my marathon last week, and today checked off my hall closet. It’s hard to imagine that a family of three could accumulate so many pairs of shoes in six years. But I guess when one of three’s feet have grown 8 sizes in that time, it is a little more understandable.
For the most part I was pretty good, but there were a couple of pairs of boots that did not meet the “have worn in the last year requirement” (or even the last five) that I did keep, because can you ever have too many pairs of black boots? I realize that seven pairs might seem excessive, especially the Kiss boots, but they all vary in heel styles and heights, some are short, some are tall, and I am ok with it.
Not on my list but something that I didn’t realize until yesterday that I had been neglecting, was cleaning out my baking cupboard. For those who know me, know that I only bake once a year (which was yesterday), so why do I have a baking cupboard? It is was a cupboard filled with delicious intentions, but in all honesty I would rather have another plate of food than have dessert, therefore depriving my family of homemade baked goods. I am ok with that also, but deep down inside the guilt is too much so I host an annual Christmas bake exchange.
So with one last thing to do on my list, 40 Christmas cards to write, my quarterly accounting package screaming at me, an Open House to host, a Christmas tree to buy and decorate, as well as all the presents to go under said tree…I guess I am just getting started.
Freezing up a storm
The first day back from vacation and the sun finally came out…I may have to take another one soon!
I spent the last week of my vacation nursing some kind of shoulder/neck issue, and wouldn’t you know it, today it is all gone…grrr. Despite being slightly injured, I did manage to take in a few classes with other instructors, but was called out by one of the participants for only using 2lb weights! What is up with that?
Just because I couldn’t turn my head, my vacation didn’t need to be a complete wash, I did the Grouse Grind, I lunched with girlfriends, went to no fun Lilith Fair (I did manage to have some fun), you can’t tell now but I did weed my garden and I shopped.
Today, I am back at‘er with a vengeance… I was in the Studio this morning and will be kicking some serious ass tonight at the Lake, muhaha. I have also been busy in the kitchen this afternoon, I made freezer jam! I am far from Suzy Homemaker, I don’t sew or iron, but I do love to cook (not a fabulous baker, but I do make mean shortbread cookies). Not trying to toot my own horn, but I did receive the Home Economics Academic Award in grade 11 and in grade 12! I know that freezer jam does not require any cooking, it does however require a fair amount of dishes and utensils and a lot of stirring! Three minutes (times 2, I made 2 batches) is a long time to stir, June Cleaver must have had pipes of steel! Freezer jam also requires a lot of freaking sugar! No wonder my daughter will only eat my jam. Thank goodness I don’t have to put a nutrition facts table on the side of the jars, yikes. I choose to look for the positives, the strawberries were frozen fresh and the jam was made with a whole lotta love!
Time for another trail running season
The course is marked, the truck and trailer (and several other vehicles) are loaded and the coffee pot is set to brew at 4:00am! Looking forward to a great turnout at Golden Ears Park for the 5 Peaks Season opener tomorrow morning, fingers crossed for dry weather.
Race package pick-up and race day registration start at 7:00am; come early to avoid the line-ups and the race with start at 9:00am. A big thank you in advance to all of the fabulous volunteers who make these events such huge successes. Have a safe race everyone.
On a more personal note, thank you all very much for all of your well wishes that you have sent to my Dad. Big Tone/Granddad is doing very well, cheering on the Canucks as I type, although not able to join my Mum in their traditional fist pump when they score!
I’m a Hollaback Girl!
I have been gearing up for this week for the last month…final exam, 5 Peaks season opener race and my Dad’s “minor” heart surgery. Three big ones, on consecutive days to boot, what the hell?
It’s not been all doom and gloom; there have been a couple of cool things that have taken the edge off the end of my week. First cool thing, this morning I rockstar’d Incline, no stopping even though I was completely overdressed, I really didn’t need the long sleeves or the gloves for that matter. It felt awesome, but as Conny informed me in the car on the way home, I can never hike it again…shit.
The Second cool thing that has happened this week, I am now (and the only Canadian so far, which makes me the first Canadian) Hollaback Health Blogger! Hollaback Health is a community of health bloggers who challenge the status quo and rescue health blogs from the huge vortex of suck where they seem to be swirling around. I am super excited and honored; these ladies are very smart and funny and have the perfect amount of attitude!
So what’s next, things happen in three’s right? Runner’s World cover shot…a $100,000.00 advance on my book…what about a worldwide book tour…my debut on Oprah…maybe my own show? Bring it on.
